Asphalt still dominates residential work
Most American homes still re-roof with asphalt shingles because the material is familiar to crews, insurers, and inspectors. Architectural (laminate) shingles are the default mid-market choice. 3-tab products cost less up front but often look flatter and may not match neighborhood expectations. Premium or designer lines raise both material and labor.
Tear-off, pitch, and stories

- Steep pitches slow production and may require extra safety gear.
- Second-story and cut-up roofs (valleys, dormers, skylights) raise waste and time.
